valve adjusting... need help asap. my car is apart
when i adjust my valves... i start at TDC right. but the thing is where is TDC? do i line up the 3 marks where my timing is set at 16 degrees, or do i start at the 0 degree mark? i cannot take off the timing belt cover so i can't tell with that method.

TDC on the compression stroke on each individual cylinder. You have to rotate the engine for each cylinder. If you can see the camshaft sprockets, you should be able to tell when cylinder 1 (closest to the timing belt) is at TDC. After that, you use common sense to rotate the crank for each cylinder you need to adjust

So put a screwdriver in the spark plug hole and rotate the engine until it stops going up.
This isn't rocket science...

On the crank, line up the single white mark. The 3 marks are for ignition timing, so disregard them right now.
If you cant pull the timing cover off, the best thing to do is:
Line up the white mark on the crank. Now either #1 or #4 will be at TDC.
Try to wiggle the lifters. Which ever cyl is at TDC, the lifters will be loose.
You can adjust the valves with only having to turn the crank twice.
First line up the white line, and figure out which cyl is at TDC.
While #1 is at TDC, you can adjust all the valves on #1 the intake valves on #2 and the exhaust valves on #3.
Then rotate the crank 360 degrees and line up the white mark again.
While #4 is at TDC, you can adjust all the valves on #4, the intake valves on #3 and the exhaust vaves on #2.
Then your done!
Post up any other Qs.
