turbo ls or type r
i was thinking when i get my car, going ls then turbo it instead of trying to get a type r, but i want both but im confused and dont know which way to go i mean a type r motor in a hatch would be nice but so would a turbo ls hatch , can you guys maybe give me some edvice, i think money wise the type r will be more but it will be worth it right? and what can i except to beat in a ls hatch? cobras?

Re: turbo ls or type r (EG_HB)
can i get an explanation why, just wanted to know ?
but if you plan on boosting later and replacing pistons and what not dont waste the money on the R. but if ur going all motor the R is great and reliable just like 97hb stated

i take it you havent seen hybrid901's burnout video?j/k and the fact that ive driven a boosted gsr. i just love the feel and i dont know too much about ls turbo. just an uneducated thought i suppose

A big turbo takes bigger lag ( spool up ) time then a small one. If you use a small turbo its actually not that long. IF you autox then a type r with its tranny is perfect because with Na power your always in the zone as long as you keep it in the right rev range. My opinion go ls turbo you'll learn alot and you can always go faster with more boost ( just remember to build that block for anything over 8 psi)

Re: turbo ls or type r (h82lose)
I'll try and shed some light, since i am in the exact same dilemma:
B18c-r: Great engine right from the start. hi compression, rev happy ,friction coated internals, free flowing internals, great tranny with lsd.
b18b: 140hp, nothing special untill you drop the money on the turbo kit
ive seen b18c-r swaps for as low as 3800$ from reputable places and b18b swaps for around 2 grand. you also have to remember your going to need a turbo kit and all other hidden costs that you wont realize you need till you start. 2nd, If you ever plan on upgrading the internals of the b18c-r there is at least a market for them where you can make so money.
If you wanted to take it one step further, you can go with the b18c-r and then always turbo that when your not happy with the NA power anymore. Ive seen 400+whp turbo'd type r motors so it can be done.
When i look at it, 1800$ more for a motor that will be quick without doing any work and has the same potential as the b18b, plus all of the benefits of the itr motor and the fact that you can sell the stock parts when you upgrade sounds more appealing to me.

Re: turbo ls or type r (EG_HB)
Ive been looking at this option latley. Here is a turbo called the L1R that is the size of a 16g but gets better flow.(www.agpturbo.com Go to dsm turbo chargers, then GT twin ball bearing)Tests have found 22lbs of boost by 3000-3100rpm on dsms. I read a review on dsmtuners.com and the test driver was very impressed by boost responce. Hit the throttle, instant boost. Now if you dont have a built motor and are restricted to 8psi then why not almost eliminate turbo lag so you have the power? I know its supposed to be a DSM specific turbo but I dont see why it wouldnt work on a honda/acura. Just my .02.
