Default Some info on camshafts would be lovely.

Okay so my buddy has a set of brand new GSR cams to go in my 99 Si. He told me since I want to go FI in the future that GSRs are the way to go to avoid turbo lag.

Couple questions:
1) Am I going to see any gains with the cams straight from the box before I turbo?

2) Upgraded valvetrain necessary for GSR cams?

3) And what is the value on a set of brand new (still in the plastic) GSR cams?

Thanks!

1) People claim that GSR cams make some gains on a b16 motor but it is only a couple hp we are talking about.

2)No

3)Not sure I wouldn't pay more than $250

hmm, okay. What about CTR cams? Although I was told by the same guy they aren't good if I'm going to be investing in a turbo.

More aggressive camshafts aren't good for turbo. Aggressive cams increase overlap. With lots of overlap the turbo is just going to blow boost in and out of the cylinders. You will notice an increase in performance with the CTR cams right away and an even bigger performance gain with tuning... Skunk2 makes camshafts specifically for turbo cars but they would probably perform poorly without a turbo. My recommendation would be to make up your mind now on which way to go. Alternatively you could buy the CTR cams or skunk2 stage 1 cams (slightly better) and just swap them out when you go turbo. People are always looking for those parts, I am sure you could sell them right here on honda-tech...

Oh and buy my seats...

So I just ordered Buddy Club cam gears and GSR cams.

What's the difficulty on installation?
