Default Trouble removing coolant switch for 92 Civic VX

I hate making threads asking for help but I'm having serious trouble with this thing.

My car overheated today and I'm trying to find out if my coolant fan is working. I'm trying to use the paper clip method on the switch but I can't get the bastard to unplug. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

pic for reference as to what I'm talking about.

Squeeze locking clip, pull off. Easy as. Are you actually squeezing the locking clip, or are you just trying to tug it off?

From the angle that pic is taken, see how the bottom has kind of a trapezoidal bit? The clip is literally RIGHT there.

Got it thanks man. Well the paper clip turned the fan on. So now to check the cooling fan switch connector or the thermo is bad.

Resistance testing with a voltmeter should make it easy to figure out which is the problem.

Decided to just remove Thermo. Is this even worth testing? Looks like the rubber piece is done for.
