transmission oil leak, have searched and can't figure out where it is coming from! possibly half sha
i have a 94 jdm b16a2 in my 92 hatch, it has been leaking from the tranny for months now, I know this because it pops out of fifth when its low. When i first did the swap it never leaked untill i did a clutch job. It is a bad leak, and if i drive hard it leaks out really fast. I replaced both axle seal and the shift rod seal (near linkage) and it still leaks. There are large amounts of oil visible on the exhaust, oil pan bolts, shift linkage, bottom of the tranny case and underneath the car on the passenger side stretching back a few feet. This is driving me crazy and i really do not want to bring it to honda. I heard that if the driver side axle seal isnt positioned directly flush with the outside of the tranny it will leak bad, that if it gets pushed in too far it doesnt do its job. I can't think of anything else.
btw all the seals are for a usdm 94 del sol dohc

I had this same exact problem... I hate to say this but your fix is probably installing new axle seals it fixed mine I bought the one for the rod because that is where I thought it was leaking from but have not installed it yet and it does not leak so, my fix was new seals... also you could have a crack in your casing. Hope it is installer error like mine though good luck hoope this helps

Re: (mike93eh)
as far as I can tell its not the main seal, but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to leak unless i am shifting hard, are there any ways to tell if this is my problem? I unbolted and pulled the flywheelcover back to see if it was soaked with oil and it seemed pretty dry.
Im going to reinstall the axle seal and inspect it again just to see if that might be the problem.

if you think its the main seal check the engine oil level... this should tell you if it is or isnt... if its the tranny im leaning towards a cracked case or broken input shaft bearing... is the tranny making any unusual noises?

I have a oil pressure gauge and it hasn't fluctuated at all. It's not making an unusual noises and I can't see any cracks, if it was the input shaft bearing where would it be coming out of?

Re: (deckster333)
after the reinstall of a factory honda seal the leak has either stopped or slowed enough to drive normally. Anyone else that is installing an axle seal make sure is just flush with the outside of the casing so it does it's job.
