Transmission noise under decel
Car: 97 DX Hatch, 99 EX trans. Stock aside from ES motor mounts and shift stablizers.
Just swapped a transmission I picked up into my daily. On deceleration in just about any gear, there's a noticable whine. In first and second gear, it's pretty damn loud, almost as loud as a bad ISB in second, louder in first. And again, that's only when I let off the gas. Give it some gas or press the clutch, and it's silent. Under power it's fine. third gear is a little noisey, but no grinds, slips, anything except the noise on decel.
I'm not super worried, as I can easily replace the ISB in the DX tranny and swap it back in, but I'd just rather not go through the hassle.
It's not the throwout bearing, it only makes the noise when the clutch is engaged.
It's not the input shaft bearing, as it's quiet when under power.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Re: (csulliva)
I dnt kno. Im havein similar problems but i thought it would be my isb. When you are reengauging the clucth when you are done shifting does it mak kind of a howling noise? I dont now how else to put it. It just doesnt sound healthy.

Re: (faxshatch)
Well just like I told faxshatch, im going to tell you. My bet is the ISB. Answer me this. When in idle try to turn off radio and see if you can hear the winding sound? When you press in the clutch does it go away? Im almost 100% sure its the isb. And for some reason it seems to be louder on the 96-00 trannies. Cuz my 93 civic had this problem but my ej8's tranny isb is way louder.

Well then, have you tried looking into the wheel bearings? Maybe its that. If it doesn't do it at idle then try the wheel bearings. Use the search function to read on how to check them.

yup, checked. They're fine.
That would make a speed dependant noise. This is RPM dependant, and only on clutch out decel. Clutch in decel (coasting) it's quiet at a mouse.
