What kind of material is a Honda tranny made of and how can it be welded?

the tranny case is made out of aluminum, you'll have to find someone that can weld that. They can either tig or mig weld aluminum. They'll probabally tig it, looks a lot better and is stronger.

Will JB weld be tough enough to hold the bolts from the back T mount?

I'm not sure of JB Weld will hold up, but I know the tranny case is made out of aluminum.

Someone just told me JB weld should hold up...Should I even try or will it break for sure.

I had a cracked tranny case for a long time and I had it JB welded and its nothing but a pain in the ***. Do it right the first time so your not scraping JB weld every few weeks.

Exactly, do it right the first time so it doesn't give you a headache later on.

It's not the tranny case it's the hole for the back T mount. the top of the hole ripped out. Any other options on how to fix this.

^ I nee to know how to fix this. Would filling the hole with weld, drilling and tapping it again work?

just take it to a machine shop with a welder. At the shop I work out we just fixed a bellhousing off a jeep and 2 of the holes was stripped out. What we did was we drilled the holes out bigger and tapped them and made 2 plugs out of aluminum that were threaded on the outside with the correct tapped hole on the inside and screwed them in. Next we had out welder tig them in and then I bolted it down on the mill and got rid of the excess weld off and re-tapped the holes just to make sure they was good.

Please don't JB weld it.. do it right the first time and forget about it, take it to a welder and ask him to plug the hole. if its just the casing it will be a piece of cake, if its the assemebled tranny he's going to have to find a way to cover or protect the internals from dirt and anything that may have found its way into the tranny during the welding process

if you stripped out the hole, just helocoil it. Or you wonna do it really good just replace the housing. For b series housing won't run you more then $100, and for d series it's literaly free.

quit dicking around take it to a machine shop, being a machinist I should know. Just get them to tig across the top and then retap it. On the bell housing the reason we made the plugs for it was because the holes were stripped out so bad that the threads on the helicoil wouldn't have been holding on much so the ones we made worked just like a helicoil but it had a lot more material around them. Helicoils might work good for a sparkplug hole but they're not strong at all.
