it depends...if you are going all motor then use a b16 tranny, a ctr tranny would be ideal!!! but if you want to go turbo eventually then go with somthing with longer gears.....like an ls tranny.

well with a b16 tranny you will revving high as hell on the highway
i would use a gsr tranny because it has shorter gears than an ls but has a higher 5th for crusing

A GSR transmission with an LS fifth gear with a Quaife LSD.
Why? Best of all worlds. LSD diff with bulletproof construction. Easily available USDM parts, decent gear ratios (not perfect, but good), and a decent "cruise" gear for interstate travel.
The JDM ITR transmission is better, no doubt. But, if you have to get it worked on, you will need an experienced professional and it will require imported parts (not cheap), and the high cruise has high RPM and "poor" (relatively, of course) MPG.
Just my ideas.

GSR tranny with JDM ITR final drive.
dont change the gears or other stuff to LS, your ruining a good thing.

i would agree with the GSR being the better tranny to use with the addition of the LS 5th. without it it still revs too high for highway driving. you'll pull hard to 200km/h(not sure of the mph) but after that, you can say hello to your rev limiter(7400 stock LS ecu).
