Default TPS problems.....

Ok....I have a B16A2 in my EK.

The swap went great and has been running strong since last November.

Now....last month I got cell 7 (TPS) and some weird things followed shortly after.

I would floor the gas pedal and my car acted like I was doing nothing. Then out of nowhere it would realize the signal and jump back to normal.

So.....I went and found a slightly used TPS since Honda doesn't sell it seperate (you have to purchase a whole TB from them), I decided to use it.

I took mine off and replaced it with that one and used screw to hold it on.

Everything is lined up perfectly and I reset the ecu and everything was great.

Well......everything WAS great.

Tonight while I was at my second job delivering pizzas...my car started to act up.

I would press on the gas like normal to accelerate from a stop light and my car would pause for like 2 sec. and then it would realize I was on the gas and would jump foward and then do the same thing, back to back, like 2-3 times before acting like normal.

Then just as I started wondering wtf was wrong, my cel came on again and it is code 7!

Now what in the hell is going on?

I just can't believe that this TPS sensor is bad! It just doesn't seem right.

I tried cleaning the throttle body with some carb cleaner, but that didn't help at all.

Has anyone ever had/seen this problem?

I need some advise on what to do to fix this.

TIA for any replies.

did you recalibrate it when you put the TPS back in?

it has to read a certian voltage.. you might have just got lucky putting it in where it read close enough not to throw a cel. but basically you need a voltometer.. and it should read .5 at idle and 4.5 at wot

needs to be at .5 or .45 volts when closed...this sensor controls your fuel..it could cause ur car to run pig rich if its not set right...

maybe the hesitation is ur spark plugs whens the last time u changed them?

like last week.

this isn't any normal hesitation.

I mean....I floored the gas and my car sat there and acted like I was pushing the wrong pedal for like 3 seconds and then out of nowhere, it realized I was on the gas pedal and just freaked out.

I have a volt meter at my shop.

I'll check it in the morning.

it doesn't sound like the sensors are the problem. you should check your input/output, it sounds like you have resistance or some other fault in the circuit.

not necessarily the ecu, just the circuit running to/from the sensor itself.

Ahh....I see what you're saying.

When I go to work tomorrow....I'm gonna take it off and check everything out.

I read on the hybrid.co.jp boards that some people are having problems with the wires being shitty and getting eatne through.

I'll make a post on what I find tomorrow night.

Thanks for the help!

Ok.....found the problem with the TPS.

This might sound a little odd, but trust me....it's the truth.

For those of you that know what the TPS does and how it actually works....then this will make more sense to you.

We figured out that my throttle cable was too loose and was causing the throttle plate to "snap" back when I would let off the gas.

What was happening was when it snapped back into place.....it would break off the little plastic lip that went into the groove on the TB.

We had a pretty beat up TPS laying around and decided to test the therory.

We opened the throttle to WOT and just released the pedal like I normally would.

After about 6-7 tries it finally happened....that plastic piece cracked and began acting up.

We took off the TPS and as we slowly took it off....we realized that the plastic piece had cracked just enough to slide it out of the groove and that would not allow it to see the true throttle position of the car.

So I took the good TPS we had laying at the shop nd put it on...making sure that it was at .5 at idle and 4.5 at WOT.

Next we tightened the throttle cable just enough to where there was very little to no slack in it.

We tested the TPS out the same way we did the busted one and the throttle plate NEVER once "snapped" back into place. It just calmly went back in place.

I doubt this is what is happening to everyone, but it is what caused MY particular problem.

I'll update this thread if anything happens.

up.. this would help everyone out in the future with similar problem..
Mine hesitates at around 1000~3000rpm if I press gas pedal a little harder than I normally would do... and it bogs when HOT(1000~3000 rpm)..

I'll take some pics of the broken TPS tomorrow when I get to work.

I have a spare TB there as well and I'll take a few pics of it and show how the actual TPS works.

I'll start a new thread just so everyone knows what it's about.
