timing belt jumped a tooth, do i need a new belt?
hey guys, im low on cash and ******* pissed, im tapping a valve and the compression seems fucked, do i need to buy a new timing belt, or can i re-use the old on, it was replaced 20,000 miles ago.......oem honda sorry for the noob question

If it only has 20k on it you could probably get away with using it again. That is of course if the belt was not damaged at all when it jumped. I however replace my belt every time i do any major work down there. Have you checked your tensioner or changed that at all? You have to be careful because if the belt jumps more than 3 teeth you will get interference, which everyone knows is very bad.

Yeah its better to spend a few bucks on a new belt then to spend a whole lot on a new motor.

If your almost brand new belt jumped a tooth I'll put $100 on it that your tensioner wasn't set right or didn't get tightened down enough when you did the belt change.

well i'll get a new belt then and new tensioner.......i did a compression check today and i have 130, 110, 170, 145 ????? i have a spare d16y7 head that im porting right now and im going to get it rebuilt, then swap heads.......im pissed, oh well **** happens

thats what I am wondering? If your off a tooth there is a reason your comp test was not good. I would also do a leak down test. Compression test usually is rings if they are bad. Leak down will tell you if the head is sealing properly.

i understand, but timing being off a tooth or two isnt going to skew my results, i checked the compression to see the valve was bent, i understand what you all are saying......and yes it could be rings too, i have some oil and im putting it in the cylinders and testing again tom. morning, to see if the results change, either way ill know if the valve is bent, and im about to say expletive it, i have a complete turbo kit in the basement i was going to put on next week, im getting the head rebuilt and its then vitara time, i just have to decide if i want to bore the block or not.....
