everytime i start my car i get a ticking noise.....what could it be?....timing belt? valves? etc....

P.S. i was also wondering when i will get off the trial user status..

trial status ends at like 20 or 50 posts i think :-/ or maybe it just takes some time.
the noise might be from the cam/s check your oil.

also try adding oil and see if it stops, usually when i get a faint clicking noise it means i'm a little low on oil

It could be a number of things. Low oil is one of them, but I'd venture to say if you have low enough oil to be ticking, that's a VERY bad thing.

What, if any, modifications do you have? Aftermarket pistons? Some colder pistons have piston "slap" during cold startups. They need heat to get them to operating temperature.

Your valves could be loose as well. When was the last time you did a valve adjustment? They are recommended every ~30K miles or so.

EDIT: Many cars (as you know, every car is a little different from the factory) tick a little during cold startup. Everything in the engine is cold and must get up to operating temperature. Then, everything should seal up/expand to specs. It's exactly HOW much ticking and how loud it is that you have to determine if something's wrong or not.

Other than that, you need to make sure you keep up on regular maintenance. These include, but are not limited to, oil changes, belt changes, plugs, plug wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter, etc.

You have been a regular user now for almost 2 weeks. There is a 14 day trial period, and then you become a regular user. If you were a trial user, there would be a "trial" under your name in red. You have the ability to post in any forum now.

damn i every 30k miles for valve adjustments? i have 90,000 miles and i haven't done it once.....how much does the valve adjustments usually run?

about the same as a 10mm wrench a screwdriver and a feeler gauge.

Not too mention since you have 90K, you might want to check your maintenance schedule and do everything. Get a torque wrench, or borrow one from a friend. Get your wrenches and screw drivers out and get some feeler gauges. You can save soooooo much money and learn about your car if you DIY rather than forking out hundreds for a shop to do the major tune up. Do everything over a course of the month if need be.

Buy a Helms while you are at it.

How long does it tick? Seconds, minutes? If it ticks for just a second or two then its the oil pressure building up. Low oil pressure not being high enough to keep the parts from hitting one another. When the oil pressure builds up it stops because the parts are seperated by a thin film of oil under pressure.

You may also hear more valve train noise with thinner weight motor oil.

Adjust your valves as has been recommended.

A little ticking is normal on all Hondas. It's your injectors. Try getting a valve adjustment and that will make it quieter.
