Default thoughts on engine mounts

Lately, I've been fed up with my ES mounts since the vibration is getting to my head, so i ordered brand new mounts for the two lower mounts (AC mount and lower tranny mount). After staring at it for a while, it has become obvious to me that these mounts really arent designed to take much load at all, and if so, very little. they are very weak. But looking at it, they seem to be designed primarily to limit the engine's movement from moving up and down, and not so much side to side (especially the AC mount).
Even if they were broken (rubber ripped off), as long as they are still in there, they are still functioning as designed, limiting engine movement up and down only. If you were to look at these mounts, there's only like 1-2mm of space for the mount to move up and down b4 hitting it.
Well the main purpose of this rant is that, these mounts arent really designed to do much but do just what I mentioned above. So it is my opinion that putting ES motor mount inserts on those mounts are almost fruitless. I do see that it would stiffen the engine, but barely, and at the expense of vibration. The mount that I see that matters most is the firewall mount. Just need opinions.
