Default Thermostat ?

My car keeps creaping up in the gauge on the hot side when I get stuck in traffic, is it ok for me to just take out my thermostat for the summer, I also want to hard wire my fan. Will this be a problem? I know you can do it on older cars but not sure on b16's

whens the last time you changed your timing belt, you may need a new water pump... You may also want to flush your radiator and fill it back up a few times to make sure everything is running smoothly and there is no air in your cooling system..

Also double check your hoses to make sure there are no leaks.

A thermostat is less than $15. Just replace it and your antifreeze while you are at it.

Do not run without a thermostat, repeat , do not. You may have a problem with your electric fan. Make sure it runs when it should. Check your coolant and make sure it looks good and is at the proper level.

You better get it straightened out soon because overheating is one of the biggest reasons for engine failure in Japanese 4 cyl. motors. Low oil and leaning out can also cause overheating.

thanks guys, my car has 82,000 miles on it, I'm assuming that it has never been changed since I bought the car w/ 30k on it. I don't have any leaks and my coolant is new. I'm pretty sure my problem lays in the fan, I never hear it turn on even when the car is hut off after hard running, can I hard wire it to an after market switch?

With your mileage I think it's time for some service. Timing belt, water pump, flush radiator, replace thermostat, check cooling system, replace PCV valve. Also replace fuel filter every 30k, valve adjustment, check/replace plugs wires, cap and rotor, if not already done. It won't be cheap but it's worth it..

Those fans are run off of a relay in your underhood fusebox, if that relay is blown that will cause it not to turn on. As a test take a relay from one of the other two positions (the three in there are rear defrost, blower, and rad fan relays) You can use the relay from the blower or the defrost to test out your radiator fan relay. If it still doesnt turn on automaticly after this, you can hard wire it by extending the black/red wire to the interior fuse box or something. If you do hard wire it, make sure to use a 20amp fuse or so inline with the wire (buy from radioshack for a couple bux it could save your whole electrical system). Ive had to run my stock 94' like this for awhile because theres a loose wire somewhere in the wireharness for the rad fan relay. Sorry for rambling

All you have to do is unplug the plug behind the thermostat and jump it. Connect a wire to both connectors on the plug and tape up the plug so the wire won't come out... then ur fan will stay on all the time.
