Thermostat
It's been a long time since I posted up in a tech forum... but yeah.
My car started overheating a while back, so I replaced the thermostat (carquest) and seemed to be all right for a while. Then I noticed I was leaking coolant somewhere, who knows where, but that was okay I don't mind filling it up every other day.
But now I don't think the thermostat is working period. The return-hose after the thermostat doesn't ever seem to get hot, and so I'm assuming its not opening.
This also seems to be causing the coolant to want to find a way out, and its coming out of one of the IACV hoses on the throttle body.
What could be wrong? And is it possible that that IS whats happening, that the pressure is building up behind the thermostat and forcing its way out through a clamped hose!?
Thanks,

Re: Thermostat (Maness)
I think i have the same problem. i havent bought a new thermostat yet, but if that didnt fix yours, then it might not be the problem. I have a 93 del sol and it has popped the hose off(the one that goes from the radiator to the overflow). Shoots coolant all over the engine, then it overheats and i just have to close it back up, refill with coolant and pretend it never happened. maybe you just bought another bad thermostat? im gonna go replace mine and i'll let ya know if it fixes the problem.

My car starting overheating if I drove for more than 15-20 minutes. Bottom radiator hose was cold. I replaced the thermostat and it fixed the problem. I never had a problem of leaking coolant while the thermostat was shut closed. Perhaps you bought a defective thermostat if your car is still overheating.

Re:
Remove your new thermostat and hang it with a string in some metal or glass container. Pour boiling water into it until the stat is submerged. If it doesn't open, it's busted.

Re: (Blk00EJ8)
Well I exchanged my hose, stopped leaking.
Now I had replaced the thermostat over summer some time with a Carquest one, which obviously wasn't working. Went and got myself one from Honda and while the cars' temperature doesn't just stay static like it used to, it does now open and the car cools down.
So anyone with issues, just go to the dealer and pay the $28 or whatever.

Guess it was your bad luck with aftermarket thermostats.
I bought an aftermarket one from Checker for like $7.xx, works like OEM.
