Default Test Pipe?

I have a 93 cx with a 97 d16y8 engine. right now im using a stock 94 si header (which is rubbing on the oil pan), stock si cat and RSR cat back exhaust. I just orderd a 4-2-1 stainless steel RSR header.
My question is.. will the stock si cat be to restrictive? Would i benefit from a test pipe? If so, by how much.. How much do they cost? Could i get a muffler shop to make me one? Thanks
Graham

yeah you would benefit from one i'm currently running a straight pipe and it is a little noisier but well worth it,a muffler shop should charge 30 to 40 dollars to make one it's very simple good luck

IMO, you shouldn't get a test pipe unless you run to the track a lot...it makes the exhaust smell like **** and exhaust note of your car sounds like a buzzsaw. It's also not worth dumping all those extra fumes in the environment if your just going to drive around town as a daily driver. They aren't that expensive, just that your CEL will go on when you start driving. You will make more power due to less restriction, mainly at the top-end.

watch out with those test pipes, they are really loud, and if you get pulled over, you get a nice ticket along with a bastard judge to face. Test pipes are cheap, and add power tho! I can get one for like ten bucks, its prett much striaght piping it. But watch yourself. Because you can get some FATTY tickets for not having a cat.

since you live in cali ...most places wont make a testpipe for you because it is illegal......thats how it is where i live...either way they wont put it in but thats the easy part...i would suggest getting your heat shields from a stock cat and getting them welded onto the testpipe...again just a suggestion...it does make power though...good luck

I called three muffler shops in So. Cal to try and see if they would hook up my Carsound cat, and they all said they would not. Apparently it is a $2500 fine for the shop if they get caught putting an illegal catalytic converter on a car. I can only imagine the trouble they would get in if they were caught "straight pipin'"
