ive got a bone stock 96 civic ex. yesterday the temp guage in the car started to bounce around when i gave it gas and sometimes on its own. today i got into my car and turned it over and it didnt start along with the cel coming on. turned the key off then tried starting again and it did. i went to advance auto checked the code and it was p0118. i replaced the sensor with a new one, it was fine for a few hours then it started acting up again but no cel light as of now. anyone have this problem and what did you do to fix it? the fan does come on and the car doesnt seem to act weird

Test your thermostat, and do a compression test.

Did a compression test not to long ago and everything was within spec (almost 190k miles). What would the t-stat have anything to do with the gauge? Coolant sensor under the dizzy sends the signal for the cluster
