BAR'd is when you want to get an engine that is same year or newer to be swapped in your car. You will have to pass an inspection to see if your engine is properly installed (vac lines, harness, obd, wirings, ecu) and once they check everything over and see that your engine is properly installed they will run your car like they would in a smog station and run it to see if it meet the smog regulations for that particular state. Usually it only applies to the states that requires cars to smog every 2 years. Because if you dont BAR'd the engine. No way in hell the smog station will ever smog your car unless you know someone that can hook you up. But once you pass everything the state ref will issue you a sticker stating that your car is now officially inspected and can be smogged as the engine in your car. But do a search theres plenty of great info here on HT about BAR'd

and here i thought cali was the only place
We all need to move to states like Florida or vermont, where you dont have to have inspection stickers.

As long as your motor is of the same year (or newer) , and has a normal OEM cat, you should not have a problem at all.

BAR stands for Bureau of Automotive Repair.

What cali has is the state referee for smog that allows us to legalize our motors. You have to check with your BAR rules on emissions on how you could legalize your motors. Some states really dont care what you have under the hood or on the car.

yes...if the cop knows that your should have a sohc and theres a dohc, they will more than likely issue you a smog reff ticket, (CA) dont know if that applies in NV and you will then have to see the smog reff....i drive my ITR swaped coupe around everyday hopeing i dont ever get pulled over...i will be BARing it eventually but my tags are good for 2 years i just put an Si badge on it in hopes they figure its sapose to have a dohc

and this is why I love Indiana... don't have to worry about any of this. Swap what ever you want and do pretty much what ever you want. No inspections and cops never ask you to open your hood unless they are chilling out where everyone is gathered and are curious to see what people have done. There are even a couple of local cops that are into the whole "underground" scene if you can even call it that. I know them personally and I know that they wouldn't do anything. There is a guy that just got done building a 302 v8 civic that had a bunch of the old timer cops gawking over it.
