Default Truth or not about smog check?

I was recently told that if you get an engine swap you have to put your old engine back in when you go to smog it. Ive never heard of this and it sounds really weird but it is a possibility I guess. So is it true, do you have to drop your old engine back in when you smog?

This is what you must do:

The rules to follow in CA are that the engine must be the same year or newer and all smog equipment must be hooked up. Then go to the ref and have them give it the sniffer test and visual. Once you pass...they will give u a nice sticker that says for example "1992 Honda Civic, 1995 1.8L Integra motor". Once you have this sticker, a smog station cannot fail you because you have an engine swap.

If you didn't follow the rules..then you pretty much have to look for a hook up at a smog station or bribe em i guess. There's always ways around it. Only problem is, if you ever get cited by a police officer, it will be a smog violation..and you'd have to get it cleared at the ref. Hope this helps.
