Swap is done, coolant leak, and idle problm b16a
well its done, but i'm having problems and i hope they are not serious. I am having a coolant leak problem which i think is causing my idle problem..... I can not find the coolant leak. By the way, I have NO check engine lights. On the front of the block where the head meets the block it looks like coolant is seeping through. Its not bad in the front though. however after driving when i shut the car off I can hear the coolant streaming down. and its not in one spot its in a couple spots near the back of the motor. The car is not running hot either. I really dont know what to do.
please help

could the leak be the coolant coming between the block and the head. Would that be the head gasket? My reservoir is completely dry

you didn't, they probably took it of before you bought the engine...
sometimes it is enough just to clean both the head and the block, apply the gasket and screw in the head... but in most cases it is not...
head needs some work, new gasket, block needs some serious cleaning...
And do that ASAP cos your motor can go bye bye very very soon if you don't...

i had the same problem with my swap.... some dude jacked me.... NEVER BUY FROM A PRIVATE PARTY (although ive only heard good things from HMO??). i was driving with my new (to me) motor and i found coolant seeping from the front of engine where the head and block meet. i changed the headgasket, and torqued the bolts down properly. it still leaks. i dont have the time or $$ to get my **** decked, so i just top off the coolant once a week (< 1qt)

Re: (Jumpmann23)
like someone said before check the headgasket and the thermostat housing. check the iacv for leaks too it could be causing your erratic idle. good luck. also did y ou try getting in contact with hmotors?

you my friend were right. looked like it was coming out of head area... it was the thermostat housing. We took it off and re sealed it with honda bond. No more leak, so far. thanks thanks and thanks. I am so happy it wasnt the head gasket. I still have a shitty idle though. up and down up and down. should i take off the IACV? can i clean it?
EDIT- I did a complete coolant system flush, kept the radiator cap off... ran it for a wile until the thermostat opened. topped it off. Same ****. However I did take off the IACV and sprayed with brake cleaner for like 2 or 3 minutes. When i installed it and started it the idle was temporarily fixed (it idled at about 1200, cold) After i drove it, it went back to its eratic idle agian. I think if i let this biatch soak in carb cleaner longer it might help even more, what do you guys think. thanks

Re: (EGhatched)
okay, things are getting better.... i cleaned bot the IACV and the FITV. It seemed to hlep for now. my idle dropped to a steady 1500. That is still to high. Would this point to a vacuum leak that i still have to trace down. Whats the best way to diagnose a vacuum leak?
EDIT ****, problem is back. could a malfunctioning thermostat be causing the problem?
Edit 2 I sprayed some carb cleaner around the intake manifold, the motor bogged. maybe i found the culprate. ?????
Edit 3 Well a new intake manifold gasket solved the problem for good! i'm so happy. idles like a champ 750 rpms. thanks for all the help guys. I'll have pics of my swap up soon.
