Surge Idle???
I have a d16z6.... When I go to start my car lately (cool engine), it idles @ 1500 rpm, then I start driving (before engine is fully warmed) it surge idles between 1000-1500 rpm. Once the motor is warmed at the normal spot it idles normaly... So is this sumthing I should worry about or just let it do its thing? THANX

It's really a good thing you searched because this topic's only been covered one hundred million times. There's three major things that will cause this: #1 Your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) - needs to be cleaned or is broken. #2 You have a vacuum leak, to check this, use a vacuum pump and see if it holds up in the system. #3 Your FITV (Fast Idle Thermo Valve) needs to be cleaned.
Check them in that order.
If not, check your TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) (swap it with another temporarily then reset your ECU by pulling the backup fuse (located in your engine fuse box) for 20 seconds to make sure the ECU resets).
See where you are from there, I doubt it's anything else.
Oh, and btw, any check engine lights are on now would be the time to say so.
And if any vacuum hoses are hanging - that's obviously the problem - this'll be discovered if they're bad or broken with a vacuum pressure check.

And next time wait more than 8 minutes before bumping a topic, not everybody's on every single hour to answer a question - leave it up for a day, bump it when it gets to the second page or something.

Re: Surge Idle??? (Syndacate)
You really are a dumbass if syndacate here says you should search, Obviolusly it has been covered.. Trust me I've seen him answer some of the stupidest questions some such as mine
SO here is your only goddamn freebie take it and shut up please
cold engine=fluctuating idle
warm engine=normal idle
This is why we have sensors in our cats and so on ...
the engine needs to feel its running at a constant temp
if its cold its going to run the engine a little faster so its at normal engine temp until the entire engine starts operating at favorable temp conditions....its not going to be idling around its low 500
now shut up stop bumping and get a life....

Re: Surge Idle??? (jrzy2nR)
the cold idle is fine on your car
i think just about every civic ive had would surge a tiny bit when it was halfway warmed up.
just do what the first guy said.
clean the IACV (its on the back of the TB, spray carb cleaner in it)
then if that doesnt work your FITV (the FAST IDLE thermal valve) is on the bottom of the TB, clean it out.
you could also have some air in your coolant, as i believe both are run off coolant temp
now dont post anything else till you do those things

Re: Surge Idle??? (93cb7sedan)
This site helped me last time my civic did this...
http://www.ef-honda.com/ben/Badidle.php
It's basically what syndacate said, just pics and more in depth... gl
Try searchin a lil more next time bro... this is a VERY common problem and is everywhere on H-T...

Re: Surge Idle??? (BigRonDawg)
I had a surging idle from about 900-1400 until my car 'warmed up' and guess what? it was 80+ Degrees outside every time I started my car in the morning. it doesn't have to be COLD to cause a problem, I cleaned out my FITV and my idle has been dead on ever since.
