Stock d16z6 vtec engagement
I was wondering when the vtec is supposed to engage on a stock d16z6. I just bought a chipped ecu and I want to have the engagement a little bit lower then stock, so I was wondering when I should have it kick in. Right now I have an automatic ecu so I bought the chipped one and I get to decide when the rev limiter is, the vtec engagement, and the fuel and timing maps. Thanks for any help.

Stock engagement is between 5200 at partial throttle and around 4800 at full throttle.... also there is no point in moving vtec down if you dont have alot of motor work.. Im guessing you have some boltons, therefore the stock point is where u should set it. Honda set vetc at the point where it would be most benefecial for performance etc.

I agree, honda paid alot of people alot of money to tune their car's. Leave it where it's at unless you have extensive mods and a pro tuner.

yea i'm gonna have to go ahead and agree with that... unless you have say... top end internals springs, retainers, valves.... and so on then i would stay at least close to the stock engagement

Buy yourself some dyno time and let them mess with it. Butt dyno tuning is not only detrementel to your performance but can also lead to serious problems with your motor if run end up with it too rich or too lean.

Re: Stock d16z6 vtec engagement (JBOCRXsiR)
Correct me if wrong but it seems the later the vtec kicks in the harder it kicks in so naturally the earlier you activate vtec the softer it kicks in..... something to do with the higher up on the revs the more oil pressure and vtec is controlled by oil pressure????? does that sound right? example: my p72 (obd1gsr) ecu kicked in around 5k (give or take a little) ive got a p30 (obd1b16) and it kicks in a 5600 (give or take a little) and i know its not my imagination...... but when the vtec pops (with the p30) it pulls much harder!

no u idiot it just means that your ppower has dropped so much because ur still on the non vtec cam lobes that when it does kick in it feels like your going alot faster even tho a car with stock vtec engagement just ripped your ******* open while u were crusing at 8000 waiting for the cams to cross over!!!

Your post probably would have been a lot more informing if you left that out! I asked if anyone knew the right answer. This is a forum to find the right answers so that you dont walk around with the wrong ones right? Do you beat your kids?

Re: Stock d16z6 vtec engagement (tommyboy)
who cares i have a d16z6 and u cant feel it kick in anyways no matter what so its pointless...u only feel it with a B series. Friend has a LS/VTEC swap and it screams like no other. Its all about the oil...
