Starting an engine thats been in storage for 2yrs
My car is a 98 civic dx. I bought a '00 civic ex (d16y8) engine to put in my car about 2 yrs ago. Lots of **** has happened but its finally time to install it. The '00 engine only has 15k miles on it. Its in mint condition. However, its been stored in a garage for the last year or so. The first yr it was in a temp controlled storage unit.
What kind of precautions do I need to take before I turn the key once its installed?
Doesnt matter, but I have the ex tranny for the new engine too that will be installed with it.

i would change oil then disconnect ecu fuse and crank the motor up about 10cranks to get oil pressure up then put the fuse back in and start it up.

I'd see if u can get it to run on stand (not sure if it's like a V8 in the fact that u can run it on stand) but I'd actually buy a whole gasket kit and do all the gaskets, pistons rings...etc. **** dry rots after awhile :-\ Might run fine now, might blow a ring 20 miles from now...

I would change the oil immediately to make sure no condensation was in there. Other than that the rings should be fine, they may take a few rotations to seat again, but I wouldn't worry about it shitting parts on the interstate.

God that would suck.
Yeah I'll swap some oil and check a few gaskets. What do you think about putting a little oil in the spark plug holes?

You should change the sparkplugs, cap and rotor while you're at it. You can start your maintenance records ... g'luck

I will. Plugs, cap, rotor, and I'll drop the oil pan and clean it out just to be sure theres no gunk.
Any more advice before I do this? My current engine is EATING oil like a **** and my current tranny sounds horrible. (I have a new trans to go in too)
