how to prepare an engine that has been sitting for 2-3 years
i have a D16Y7 engine from a 2000 civic ex with 55,000 miles on it that has been sitting in the garage for 2-3 years, i want to know if i should do anything to it before i install and run the engine, should i change the rod and main bearings? anything else? thanks.

you seem misinformed......you don't have to change the bearings just make sure all the fluids are new and try to start it. Chances are the alternator is going to be seized up. Make sure to unplug the CPU so that you circulate the oil in the engine before starting her up.

Also, I always pour a cap of oil into each cylinder, leave the plugs out and hand crank it like 3 or 4 times around to be easy on the rings and super dry cylinder walls that have been in contact with the same exact spot for years and years... After that put the plugs in, remove ecu fuse and turn it over with the starter for a couple of seconds. Replace fuse and you are ready to rock. BTW some people prefer to use marvel mystery oil because it will burn off faster and cleaner, but any oil will do!

just make sure you get all the fluids out and put new stuff in you might want to check all your gaskets and stuff to make shure there not rotted

Btw, the D16Y7 is from a CX, DX or LX. The EX had the D16Y8.

well if you were planing on changing the bearings might as well rebuild it, d16y's are the easiest motors to rebuilt, its a basic head very good begineeer motor rebuild

thanks for you input guys, i just made a typo when i put ex, i meant to say dx. i dont want to get to extensive about doing stuff to this motor, its my daily driver that gets me to work and back, so i cant spend too much time messing with it, cause i need to drive it, thanks.
