Default Starter grinding, not cranking.

Hello, I just installed a new clutch/flywheel and was putting everthing back together and tried to start it and the motor would not start.

Starter made a high pitched grinding noise and got really hot.

Just want to get you guys ideas on what it could be.

Tommarow I am going to check the teeth of the flywheel.

I've heard it could be a worn ring gear, which sounds like a bitch to replace.

* I tested the starter and it came out good

I've also heard it could be a shim it would need, is this true?

Are the starter wires reversed? The BLK/WHT wire goes to the starter solenoid, whereas the BLK wire goes to the starter motor.

I got it to work after tightening one of the long skinny bolts. It seems as the cylinder was not seated in enough.

But i got a surging idle. because I put on a Z6 im and really could not find any vaccum leaks and it just has me beat.

So I'm putting the Y7 one back on to get this thing running again.

Thanks for your help.

Take off the intake to expose the throttle body. Inside the throttle body, there are ports that lead to the IACV or FITV. If you cover either hole with your finger, does the surging stop?
