It's a well known fact that our vehicles have some of the shittiest gauge clusters around. It's quite possible that your cluster just took a ****. Then again, if the car began to have idling problems, it may be somethign more severe. You need to check all the connections, particularly around the throttle body, to make sure nothing simple has happened that you can fix.

Re: speedometer stopped working (Archidictus)
Yup... Archidictus, I like the way you think. Like he said, try checking the connections. Happened when I bought my 1995 Civic Hatchback earlier this month. My brother ran a compression test before buying the car and unplugged two sets of connections along with the spark plugs (Sorry, I don't know much about cars yet, but I'm learning). After doing so, as my brother was plugging back up the fuse, the seller/owner connected back the two sets of plugs, or so we thought. After buying the car, my brother noticed that the tachometer wasn't working anymore. When just awhile ago, while test driving the car, he swear it was operating. Ignoring the minor problem we continued home, and stopped at a nearby gas station to get gas for the trip home. After doing so, he tried to start the car but it wouldn't start. After a couple of tries he went under the hood and found that only one of the connection plugs were plugged back together and the other one wasn't. Doing so, fixed the whole problem.... tach works fine now... Maybe your friend's is similiar problem? Loose connection?
