Default Sometimes won't start

I have a 93 civic hatch A/T and sometimes it won't start up right away. I have to press the gas pedal and give it gas to help start it up. I don't always have to do this, sometimes it starts up fine. When I am driving and press the gas pedal, I can hear fuel going through the line around the center dash area. I replaced the fuel filter already and had to replace the pcv hose because it was closing on itself, pinching the line. I was planning on replacing the fuel pump, just wondering if anyone has had similar problems or knows why I can hear the fuel running through the lines, thanks.

Maybe what you are hearing is your fuel pump straining while sucking thru a clogged sediment screen attached to the fuel pump. You can replace those screens (they get clogged and varnished over especially if you used fuel cleaner additives - these additives loosen scale on your fuel tank walls and then clog that screen).

Or Maybe what you are hearing is your cold air intake system ?

Thanks for the suggestion. I changed out the strainer a few days ago and I don't hear any more fuel coming through the lines. Just started having start up problems again though. When I do start up the car, I hear a short kind of scrap sound from the engine bay, it only does it once. Something engaging incorrectly?

Check your cap rotor spark plugs and wires to help with a better start

That scrap sound might be something like a cracked plastic timing belt cover . Sometimes they crack around the bolt holes and scrape plastic against plastic. Usually the top outer timing belt cover is the problem. With the engine off of course look it over closely and push on it to see if it's loose anywhere.

Well I took it to a shop this morning, they said the head gasket is bad. They did a chemical test so I don't know how bad or where it is. So I guess thats that.
