Some del sol swap questions....even more confused now from 5 hours of searching
...on 3 different message boards and countless websites.
I just bought a 95 del sol S 5 speed(1.5 non vtec motor) with 180k on the clock.
Its got blowby like no tomorrow and I want to either rebuild the block (if it can be done without pulling it) or just swap it with a jdm used one. I'm no rookie to dropping in JDM motors but when it comes to hondas I am. So far it seems that the easiest (quickest) and cheapest is the d15b swap. I don't care about HP, just need this for a reliable ride. Figure the VTEC motor is only like 50 bucks more so what the hell.
Now what's left me confused: they say the del sols come prewired for vtec, does that mean I can use the d15b vtec jdm motor and not need a new ECU as well? or do I still need a new ECU?
Next, do all jdm d15b motors work with the sol? Also, I keep seeing "all d-series are bolt on" "direct bolt on" etc...does that mean it'll bolt into the motor mounts and that's it or does it mean ALL the sensors and hoses/cables/my tranny all hook up with no modification?
Any links to swap pages would be helpful...
thanks!
Mike

if you want the vtec to activate, you would change the ecu. as far as the mounts they should work fine.
**EDIT** someone correct me if i'm wrong but as far as belts, hoses, and tranny its the same as a U.S. d series. and as well as sensors.

1. Youll need a new ECU, just think of a Del Sol as a 92-95 Civic. As for all being prewired for VTEC im not sure, but what that means is that you could just hook up a VTEC harness to your shock tower plugs and be done with it.
2. Direct bolt in means you could use either your own mounts or the mounts that came with your motor and itll fit onto the car no prob.

I think when ppl say its prewired for vtec they basically mean it has the extra wire in the harness that just isn't used. It makes no difference really, cuz even if it doesn't it takes almost no time to add one (or get another harness).
As for if it IS prewired, I'm not too sure. I know all Canadian EGs are prewired, and I've heard that all us '92 civics are too. I'd imagine that the delsol would be the same in this respect.
The d15b will slide right in. All you need is a p28 ecu and to add a wire for the vtec solenoid if you don't already have one.
