this is what i just heard from a friend of mine,,,he just got a del sol si and he's been tryin to fix it up, but it won't even catch up to one of those wannabe racers. When i heard that i was just like wtf?? cuz i thought del sols r supposed to be one of the fastest hondas. Can anyone tell me how you should fix a del sol up or how fast they r when they are stock and stuff? Thanx

1st the car is heavy,2nd the motor sucks unless you got a dohc vtec model. 3rd drop a gsr,itr swap in it. and yes the del sol are slow. i drove a dohc vtec model and hated it. del sols suck. heavy cause they had to reinforce it all over cause the top and everything. thats why u dont see fast del sols.

Yeah, 2nd that... wish every avatar was that good (unlike mine).
Open top cars are usually heavier and less rigid than hardtops. Unless they're composite and well made.
Anyway, yeah the del Sol has too much weight for its size (base on a Civic platform). If you think about it a Civic has potential to be quicker because it weighs less, has the same basic chassis, and the same engine.

ok. let's dispel this really annoying myth about how heavy del sol's are.
every del sol came with power windows (3 power windows - don't forget the back window) and air conditioning. yes, even the base model d15 sols. you can't compare it to the eg hatches...especially the vx and cx hatches. they didnt come witrh any luxuries whatsoever. the sol was made for a certain market..those ppl that care about having creature comforts. that a/c and all those power window motors add up in the weight dept. del sol's also have a really nice interior...whereas the hatches interior is rather bland and economical looking.
you just can not beat taking the top off in the summer. period.
when you race, you can take the roof off and shed weight that way if you're so damn worried about weight.
and i beg your pardon about not seeing fast del sol's. if you'd like to come to mass, i'd be happy to hand you your *** in my heavy del sol.
have a nice day.

yea the del sols are a good platform to build on if u r planning on taking a lt of time and money just to make it equal to a civic. the thing about the del sol is that u can mod it out and still put the top down and pimp the bitches

make those XX's about 80-90, and you are right on target (with a little (very little) weight removed correct). Not Heavy.
It does of course increase with a swap, as would any civic.

Thank god.... this myth needs to stop. My buddy's old DOHC VTEC sol would pull my 00 Civic Si stock to stock no problem.
Granted my car is heavy for a civic, but when the 99-00 Si's first came out, they were FASTAR than EVERYTHING!
We need a sticky on the tech forum giving specific details of every honda made... hp, torque, curb weight, etc. etc.

Well my tech guy has the original B16a2 in his delsol and it runs 13's
I really give him props, thats with 2.260ft times traps at about 105ish
BTW all motor jun B16

yes the car is heavy compared to civic hatchbacks so lets compare weights now shall we!
in 1993 the del sol debuted with the:
s model 2300 lbs NO ac standard, NO ps, NO cruise, NO nothing really. and a d15b
si 2400 lbs ac, ps, cuise some other BS the d16z6 engine
to compare with a 93 hatchback we get
VX 2100 lbs super econo version as light as you canget
DX (same as del sol S) 2200 lbs
it boils down to 100 lbs here people between the DX hatch and del sol S. (this is the fair comparison sicne these have same options/engines ect)
people tend to think of the del sol as being heavy because the DEL SOL VTEC weighs 2500 lbs. this model has ALL the creature comforts AND A B SERIES SWAP. you have to understand that it starts life from the factory with a heavier engine. when you swap a b series into a DX hatch its not 2200lbs any more its more like 2300. take out all the a/c ps and other BS and you get a 100 lb difference between the del sol with a b series and a hatch with a b series.
now the del sol chassis isnt as rigid as a hatch either. making a hatchback a better choice for a platform to start with but in the end were only talking about 100 lb difference and a slightly softer suspension for in my opinion a much better looking car thats a convertable.

oh yeah as a side note the del sol vtec weighs only 38 lbs LESS than a 94 integra RS coupe with a MT stock for stock and 121 lbs less than a civic SI with the same engine.
and eric is your motor done yet?
