Default Smog Referee - Failed NOx

Hey can anybody help me out, I am a little strapped on time and I just did a visit at the smog referee for my 93 hatch with 94 LS motor/ecu. I have gross polluter rating on the NOx levels and was wondering if anyone can help me out here. Thanks

High NOx is caused by high combustion chamber temperatures and/or a failing emissions equipment (such as your EGR valve or cat). Have you looked into the possibility of either of these two issues existing?

It looks to me like you're not getting enough fuel. Your CO%, CO2% and HC seem fine, but your O2% is high, and your NOx is through the roof.

Try running some fuel injector cleaner through your next tank of gas, Seafoam your engine, retard your ignition timing a little, and see what happens.

What do your plugs look like?

ok, I will try that. I just installed a new fuel filter incase that was clogging the flow. Would anyone back up marvel mystery oil. I already ran about one third of a can of seafoam through the brake vacuum line when I got back from the ref today. I am going to throw in some fresh coolant as wel. I know this is a dumb question, but how do I adjust the timing? I had a honda shop look over everything before I took it in and they advanced it to 17 degrees.

First make sure there is no load on the engine (turn off your A/C, etc). Jump the service connector, start the car, then just adjust the distributor to what you want. Tighten the bolts, turn off the car, remove the service connector, and you're good to go.

You have a timing light, right?

Yes I have a light. So if I am looking from the passenger side to the driver side of the car, will turning the distributor counter-clockwise retard the ignition timing? I would assume so just looking at the firing order but I just would like to confirm this. Thanks for your help ddd4114.

King of Kings by itself is a great song, but the album wasn't so great. I still like their first album, Battle Hymns, the best.
