because of the torque the Si would be a very good candidate on this one if you are going to be racing it quite often.. but the highway is always going to have the rpms up.. the Gsr is a great transmission for all around.. it's good to run on the highway plus you can still run good times... I would go with the Gsr tranny just because you are wanting a good Highway tranny too..

I would go Gsr over Si(sir here in canada). Had the si tranny to built ls and was a pain on the highway, unless you get a ls 5th gear in your si tranny.

im not worried about getting good gas mileage on highway.. im looking for power on highway lol.. i dont want to go 110mph and be on 5th gear already while everyone else is still on 4th and creeping pass me bc thier 4th gear is still going and making power.. MAYBE change ls/gsr 4th and 5th gear into b16??

Then get the Si. Or even better the Type R with OEM LSD. The Type R has the same gear ratio as the Si.
DON'T EVER put a GSR 4th. I did that mistake with my Type R transmission on my B18C5. I switched back to the Type R/Si 4th and gained .1 on 1/4 mile.
I got a RS 5th.
If you're looking for top speed and are not affraid about gas milleage I suggest you to get the GSR 5th. The Si might be too short, the RS is too long, you'll have an incredibly high top speed, but no acceleration.

You can't swap just 4th gear out.. the JDM Type R tranny comes with LSD and a 4.78 final drive and the gears if you have the cash this is the way to go .. the Si and Type R will both end up being really short and you'll run like 130 topped out, but you'll get there really quickly.. If you are considering building a tranny, then I would say Si 1st-2nd, Gsr 3rd-4th, and LS 5th

i think ppl exaggerate the b16 tranny on the highway... at cruisin yes its higher rpm's but it just gets my car moving quicker on the highway. ive taken my b16 tranny past 145 mph so its not a top out issue. ide go b16 especially if ur doing alot of track runs. ive recently put a type r 4.7 final in it and love it even more.

Re: si vs gsr tranny for B20V
im running a b20 with a b16 transmission with an lsd installed... it's great in the city but it eats gas on the highway... no complaints though... if it wasn't for the lsd i would have prefered a gsr transmission

from best to worst I would pick
1)the 98 itr tranny with ls 5th
2)the lsd b16 tranny with ls 5th
3)the gsr lsd tranny stock
4)the b16 non lsd with ls 5th
5)the gsr non lsd tranny stock
6)the b16 non lsd tranny stock
1)the 98 itr tranny with ls 5th
