Short ram intake

Short ram intake
I bought a used short ram intake for my 95 civic ex, when I tried to put it on the hose running to my valve cover didn't line up with the hole on the
New intake and the place to bolt it down didn't line up with my strut, so I ran a hose from the hole in the intake to the hose coming out of valve cover and put a clamp on it, then I got a metal that extends and bolted one side to the air intake and the other side to my strut, the air intake works and everything but is it bad that i rigged the air intake to make it fit??

Re: Short ram intake
Personally I would just put a filter on the nipple coming out of the valve cover and plug up the nipple on the intake completely. In stock form it relieves the pressure in the head and circulates any oil back into the motor through the intake.
Below is a example of mine...

Okay, what is the filter called and where can I get it? Also is it supposed to make a hissing noise kinda like a blow off Valve when I'm stopped?

That nipple off the valve cover in stock form sucks in cooler air from the intake to cool the valvetrain.

If you look in the pic by the dizzy plug above it is where my nipple is. I took a piece of hose and stuck a bolt into it. I have no idea what your talking about clamp and behind the engine. As mentioned I got the filter at local parts store.

Re: Short ram intake
Your not serious are you? That nipple on the valve cover sucks air...how is oil supposed to blow through the valve cover, into the intake and back thru the intake manifold, thru the combustion chamber to make it back into the motor? It would just get burned off.

The prerequisite for proper operation of a valve cover breather is first to allow the release of internal pressure in the engine to be vented to the intake manifold. The second item is to have a design to prohibit any debris from entering the engine through the breather and to prevent oil in the valve cover from being sucked out of the valve cover by the suction of the intake manifold. This is accomplished with a thin plate covering the bottom opening of the breather. The plate is shimmed to allow pressure to escape around the plate but keeps the oil from escaping. If there is no way for this blow by to escape, the pressure would increase to the point that it would blow out gaskets in the engine. That is one function of the valve cover breathers--another is that it takes horsepower away from the engine when pressure exists in the block and the pistons' movement must work against this pressure. Another consideration is that with proper ventilation, the oil will stay cleaner longer. The last major function is environmental. All engines, with the exception of race cars, have this blow by vented into the intake manifold to be re-burned rather than released to the atmosphere.
Take your intake tube off and tell me where the film of oil came from....
^^^Just told you. Part store do sell vacuum plugs but I was at home with stuff I could use to get the job done. If you look at my build you will notice appearance is not one of my priorities at the moment.

I have never once seen any film of oil in intake tubes or throttle bodies on any of my motors ever. So are you saying its better to let that blow by oil get soaked into a tiny cone filter?

Honestly though, its much better to just run a hose from the valve cover to the intake.

Re: Short ram intake
i put on that filter and plugged it, but my air intake still makes sort of a hiss noise when im stoppped, its not loud or anything i can just tell that my engine sounds alittle different than it used to, is that normal?
