my 99 civic dx while driving with the ac on is really really sluggish... feels like theres more hesitation than there should be..
If driving with ac on and i floor it.. theres a pause before itll start accelerating and sometimes with ac on and i put gas pedal down itll start off strong then with pedal in same postion rpms drop off then pick back up.
All these problems only happen when the ac is on ... We have had 1 blazing hell hot summer here so AC is needed
thanks my fellow honda freaks

Your air condition will turn off once you go to wide open throttle. It does this to regain the power it needs to turn the ac compressor. Once you go back to partial throttle the compressor clutch is cycled, turning the compressor back on and robbing your engine of power.

yeah my a/c did that. it just felt like it was draining power, so thats y i barely ever use my a/c unless im driving moms anywhere. but its pretty normal it helped a little bit when i added a can of freon, just to fill up the a/c but it pretty normal.

When i turn my ac on it feels like 900lbs worth of mythical creatures telaported into my trunk. But in seriousness my car lacks a substantial amount of power when ac is on compared to my other vehicles. Maybe its due to the smaller engine not shelling out enough torque. yes its normal as far as i know.

Consider the A/C button the "turbo" button.
On = no power
Off = still no power, but better then before

Haha, yea, I'm pretty sure all Civics are like this. I think I've read somewhere that the A/C can use anywhere from 2-5 horsepower to do its thing. You're going to notice that bigtime when your engine only has 102 HP on a good day, like mine.

Very normal, i own a twin turbo 3000gt, and my god! i could loose, to a mini van.... rather not go there. But yea its all true only 2-5 horse power draw, but still its a mean draw from it, especially in lower gears, my honda did it, integra did, n/a 3000gt did it, and now my vr-4 does... which i least expected from.

And the hotter it is the higher the pressure in the A/C system.
And you should not "add a can of freon to fill it up" unless you want to spend a lot of money on repairs.

Yes, it's normal. These are very small motors. The ony Honda/Acura I have ever owned where I never felt a difference was with my 03 TL-S J32A2. With my Civic, I turn the A/C off when merging.

Normal honda problem.
my old del sol with a d15b7 suck so much with ac on. I had to turn it off to get on the freeway. But that del sol had ice cold air lol, small space and low under hood temp :D
But even my turbo d16y8 has problems with ac on. I can feel the lag but its not as bad as without the turbo.
Also make sure to clean your condenser since if that overheats it will put more stress on the motor causing it to run slower.
