Re: shocks..
All non-strut based Civics have "coilovers" stock...
That aside, have you tried a jounce test to determine i the shocks are bad? Leaking oil? Visibly bad seals? Damaged shafts? Just because you can feel every bump doesn't mean anything about the condition of the shocks.
I can feel every small bump too, and its because I run very stiff springs. I also run shocks capable of damping them correctly, and the car doesn't continue to oscillate after the disturbance. That is how one identifies good shocks, if they actually damp the suspension motion correctly (or on a dyno, the only true way to 100% identify a good shock).
What shocks would be good is entirely determined by what you want from the car, what your current spring rates are, how the threaded sleeves mount to the shock body, and your personal preference in shock valving.

Re: shocks..
could even be something simple as air pressure in your tires. a 32 psi front tire looks fairly the same as a 80 psi front tire and teh 80 psi tire would hit hard over bumps.
if you hear a clunk over bumps, could link pins, sway bar bushings, worn control arm bushings, struts, strut mounts.
