Secondary O2 simulator installed but with cel 65 heater? How to correct it.
I just in stalled an O2 simulator on a 00 CX with a 00 B16A2 swap... Anyway the secondary o2 sensor is not hooked up, and I'm getting cel 65 (secondary o2 heater). I wired a 1 k ohm resistor (radio shack) in between the to secondary o2 sensor black wires (A8 & B1 on ECU) but I can't get rid of the code... Has anybody actually cleared the heater code? Any info would be appeciated. I'm thinking that the 1 k ohm resistor might be the problem, but it's the size the o2 sim instructions specified... I searched and found some posts, but nobody has ever posted a definitive answer... I think alot of people could use this info... Thanks.

my friend installed a sim chip, he left the heater wire intact, and had no problems.

An O2 simulator is a bit more involved than just splicing in a resistor I think. The diy instructions I've seen require multiple parts. Anyways, there are 2 seperate circuits of the O2 sensor...the heater and the signal. The simulator (assuming it is working properly) only tricks the ecu into thinking the cat is burning the gasses like it should. But if the sensor isn't hooked up at all, the heater circuit isn't complete and throws the code.

Exactly... The sim is working correctly... I just need to send the correct signal to the secondary o2 heater pin (A8) to resolve this issue... I just wondering if anyone has actually done this themselves (what type & size resistor did you use)...

Unfortunantly with this swap the second o2 sensor plug is not connected to the main SI harness (which we used), so we don't have the option to use it. Even in the o2 sim instructions it says that you can totally remove the second o2 sensor but you will need to wire a 1 k ohm resistor in between the two black wires to simulate the signal... I'm hoping that someone on HT has done this before... Thanks for the posts so far... Let's keep them coming

Duh, sorry I forgot about that. All 96-00 VTEC models have the secondary sensor wired into the cabin harness not the engine harness. You could take the wiring from the CX harness and put it in the Si harness so you have the connector... there's enough length for you to run it to the hole under the console where the Si sensor normally goes if you wanted to just use the sensor instead of a sim.

Re: (klungemonger)
Ya, we thought of doing that but we have a DC 4-1 directly connected to a RSR cat-back, so we don't have a cat connected... So we decided to get the sim... It's doing the job (we're no longer getting the o2 secondary signal code) but now have the heater code... I'm real close to getting this resolved, just need to know what resistors poeple have used in the past to simulate the heater? The 1 k ohm 1/2 watt didn't work for me last night...

Hey, just thought of something... What if I get the secondary 02 sensor and wire the two black wires directly into the ecu, then wrap the 02 sensor in aluminum foil on the side of the ECU...

I don't think either black ground wire goes to the ecu, they go to the ground block on the engine harness (one of the 2 big plugs w/caps on them). Besides, I don't know how hot the heated sensor gets! Might not want it to be inside the cabin, I'd tie it off in the engine bay.
Shouldn't risk any electrical interference that close to the ecu either...might not be a big deal, but always err on the side of caution.
