Is it safe to run around on the street w/o timing belt cover?
I see alot of people doing it and I'm getting an adjustable gear for my cam soon. Is this safe for everyday street driving?

the only covers i use are the lower outer one for timing and the sheild that goes around the cam gears on the valve cover

Say you're driving down the road minding your own buisness.A truck pulls out in front of you and there are rocks falling off the bed and bouncing all over the pavement in font of you.One of those rock bounces up into engine bay and lodges its self in inbetween your timimg belt and gears. That would not make for a happy engine.Pluse things can just fall in there.

Keep them on, and when you go to a meet or wanna take pics of your engine bay, take it off just for show, if thats what you want to do, but why would you want to for daily driving ?

No Dork what if its raining and you have 78,000 miles on that belt SLIP!!!! and guess what!!
Why do you want it off for show!! think long life think smart your not on a dyno to have it off all the time....
or you can get you an extra from the junkyard and cut the exact holes for the entire cam gear and put it on for show and durin winter put the full cover

Which cover are you referring to? The cover behind the gears and belt.....well, Ive been running without that one for a little over a year now, no probs. If you are talking about the cover that goes in front of the belt, then just cut the valve cover. Makes cam gear adjustments easy and also shows off the bLinG bLiNg yO.

I realize that your thought process behind this was easing the ability to tune your cam gear(s), but in the best interest of your belt- leave it on. Honda does put it on in the best interest of keeping their economy car running as long as possible, just take it off when you hit the dyno and can truly tune your cams.

Its the most important belt and gear to be messing arround with one false move due to mother nature and you might be looking for a complete engine buildup!!!
is that something you want well if you got $$$ then don't care but if you are like me and tryin to save every buck then go safe.
If some of you where fortunate then you got lucky some people live south some way north I live in MEMPHIS and after i bought my Civic i pulled a CarFAX when buying it. It was manfactured in Canada and been passed like a **** in 7 different states!!!!
Best have two one for car shows another closed OEM type for daily driver

i woudlnt take the chance one time my friends car had a piece of concrete lodged between the lowest cover and the timing belt, and was eating away at the belt, good thing we caught it before it snapped

exactly my point
I know it looks cool for them dual\single cams rotating but it doesn't look good roolin with a snaped belt.
