Default Resting ECu?

how do you reset your ECu? and what difference does it makes anyways? I've read all over the internet that it does **** and some says that it does something.

I've also read that reseting your ecu may even lower your car's proformance also.

so What?

1. it doen't lower the performance. atleast not on stock ecu's
2. you reset it by unplugging the battery.
3. the purpose to reseting it is to clear codes that have already been repaired (common in obd2 ecu's). if the CEL hasn't been repaired then it won't do ****.

well, what reason do you have to reset the ecu? the mods are fine. some say reseting the ecu will notice the mods you've done and except them, but i really don't beleive that. not to mention if was true in your situation you wouldn't really feel the difference since:

1. it's a SOHC
2. it's a SOHC that's not vtec.

when i mention codes, sometimes CEL appear for emission sensors when they go bad and need repair or replacement. sometimes after doing the repaires the ecu won't notice the repair. by resetting the ecu it will clear the CEL after the repairs. i hope this isn't confusing, sometimes i don't explain **** right!

what philosofy1 said...resetting the ecu after adding mod will do nothing....the computer doesnt have much of a built in memory it will remember the codes that it throws but thats about ti...heck it wont even remember to turn the check engine light on after you've fixed the problem but the code is still in the computers memory..so no check engine but when you decide to pull codes..the code will pop up

The only thing resetting does is make it run rich for a few minutes.
