Default ECU Reset

Before I go any further, i'd like to say that I have searched pretty extensively on this site to gather all information before starting a new thread. I've noticed that my vehicle has lost all (what little it gained) pep from my intake and exhaust. I understand that OBDII ECUs eventually adapt to basic boltons (ie. I/H/E) and basically make them useless. My question is on the ECU reset. I understand that resetting the ECU will regain the power lost from the OBDII ECU retuning itself. But i'm a little unclear on how long you have to keep your negative battery terminal disconnected to reset your ECU. I've read 30 seconds, 5, 10, and 15 minutes. Could someone clarify for me which is correct? Thanks.
