Default rear brakes hiss while stopping..

recently bought my car (98 cx hatch) and noticed that it has discs in back. someone has put integra brakes i believe (maybe ex?). the prop valve looks to be stock but i have read that its the same one in cx as in EM1 so its okay to leave in. the MC and booster are stock as well, i might upgrade in future to the larger one in the future.

my question, is it normal for a brake swap to result in hissing brakes?

if not, what could cause this? Would changing rotors and pads help?

Thanks

the sound is coming from the rear brakes. deffinitely not air leak, it sounds like pad/rotor friction, i just want to know if this is normal or not.

Have you actually checked the brakes themselves? How much meat is left on the pads?

Have you worked on brakes before?

Have you inspected the brakes? Are the rotors rusty? How much pad material is left?

Hissing/scraping/grinding noises are typically not normal.

EDIT: was typing when marc posted

Snap?
Apply the brakes and you hear a snap?
Something is loose back there. Get under the car and find out if its the pads, rotors or these guys screwing around.

i havent actually inspected the brakes yet but plan to on my next day off. the rotors are clean, no rust, i was thinking it might be glazed, hardened pads. its not grinding metal to metal like when pads are worn.

i'll plan for a brake job in the short future, been working 7 days a week for the last month.

is there a way to visually check and see which car my disc brakes came from?
(part #/casting stamp?)

glazed hardened pads? go for a 10 minute ride around town, and you'll clean the pads/rotors right off.

Ive had a clip fall off and get caught in my pads once and it made a "hiss" sorta noise.
Only way to diagnose it really is yank the tire off and take a look.

just went out and pulled both rear tires and calipers off...
the passenger side (noisy side) is missing the contersunk screws that hold the rotor on.

im guessing under brake pressure that the rotor is allowed to "float" a bit and ring out instead of being fastened down and be quieter.
either way i'll pick some up from a parts store honda dealer.
the pads have about 3/16" of pad on them so i think a brake job is in order.
i looked up the 7clp13s # on the caliper and now know that my brakes are probably from a teggy. now i'll know which ones to buy.
Thanks for all the help everyone

I wouldn't waste the money on those screws. When the lugs nuts are torqued, the wheel presses the rotor against the hub, not allowing any float. The screws are basically for convenience and not exactly necessary.

With 3/16" of pad left, the sound you're hearing could be the pad wear indicators rubbing on the rotor (see pic below). So in a sense the sound could be normal...for a car that needs pads.
