Re-Seal the exhaust pipe?

Yes. Just get the new exhaust gasket. It should be made of aluminum or other soft crushable metal to seal the gaps. Cork would burn.
Do you really have to disconnect the headers from the block? Could u get away with disconnecting them from below and leaving them on the block? This way you have less bolts to deal with and a smaller, way less expensive gasket to replace.

Yeah when i helped my bro put on his header, we just took the one of the stock exhaust manifold.
