Default Rasp of an exhaust

Yea, so i got me a new exhaust..so happy right ? nahh...i used to have an apex-i N1 w/ no cat...and their piping (the piping was for a DX so yea) and it would be pretty damn raspy at certain RPM ranges...and i get a new exhaust...2.25inch ES Oval, and 2.25inch piping w/ 2.25inch cat...and WOULDNT U KNOW IT...still got rasp...how do i get rid of that ? is that something that just happens with automatic civics...like i can be somewhat on the gas and i dont get it...but when i stomp it its just weedwacker city...i dunno i think it might be a bolt cuz it still happened with both...but i dunno i dont have a resonator with the new exhasut ...should i get one of those ? or a glassback or something...please i need some help pe-po!!

PS I head that automatic civics have this problem...is this true ?

Get a resonator, should get rid of the 'raspyness'

Try to get a long magnaflow resonator, if not that, then at least a Dynomax 'glasspack', but make sure it's one with a perforated core. You don't want a glasspack with a louvered core, it will be kill your exhaust flow.

Where did you get your custom exhaust built up from?

Any muffler shop should sell/install resonators.

Magnaflow #10425 or #10435 should work (go with the longer one if possible)
http://www.magnaflow.com/02pro...d.htm

or Dynomax Glasspack (dynomax is about 1/3 the price of Magnaflow if cost is a concern)

http://www.dynomax.com/documents/thrushglass.pdf

I thought the raspyness of the exhaust was deermined by the header,
or lack of....I say a website that had some sound files of b18c5s, and b20c5s.
he was talking about hearing the rasp when there was a header on the engine with
pretty long primaries. Anyway, good luck trying to take care of it.

i have a 22" long 4" round(diameter) magniflow muffler that i use as a resonator. 2.5 inch piping on a b16 with magniflow oval muffler and i get a very deep sound. I have a dc 4-1 and no cat also.

Well its not the fact that you have an automatic.

I have an auto civic, and I have a full cat-back apex n1, and mine sounds great, with no rasp at all in any rpm range. Stock header and everything else.

Id check something else.

I got a Apexi N1 too. Hi flow cat, and a Ractive header (hey...I got it at cost, and its better than stock). Mine is raspy through about 2500-3000 rpm's. To me it sounds like ****. I definetely need to do something about it.....

You drive a Civic. All Civics have the inherent raspy buzz. If you don't think so, you're kidding yourself. it's just a matter of whether the raspy buzz will be deep or high-pitched. Hell, on my turbo Civic, the exhaust STILL buzzes! can't be helped; it's a 4-banger. People that say their exhaust doesn't buzz need to listen to it when they're not inside the car where the noise is getting muffled from insulation, carpeting, seats, etc. i used to think my N1 was great-sounding until my bro drove my car around for me. I realized it sounded like ****.

a resonator will definitely help some. Ask a muffler shop for help on picking the right application for your needs. It will make the raspiness a bit deeper and also smooth out the tone a bit. but again, it's still going to sound like a fart. It's a Honda. we all sound like farts!

Probably a stupid sounding question, but where in line does a resonator go?

After the cat/testpipe and before the muffler.

its dem high flow cats...keep a stock one it doesnt make that much of a difference or jus replace the cat with a glasspack resonator
