Random automatic weirdness (d16z6)
I recall someone on here being well versed in the automatics, I'm having some strangeness at stops, it seems to pick a random RPM to sit at while in drive fully stopped. sometimes it will be 600 and the car will shake and feel like it wants to start to die, sometimes it will be 750-800 and it will be smooth, sometimes 750-800 and a little bouncy, sometimes 900 and always smooth. No matter what is going on if I shift into neutral or park it goes right to 750 and sits there smoothly so I don't think it's an idle problem, but I'm certainly open to suggestions.
(background: del sol SI, rebuilt engine a year ago, now has 4500 miles on it, had to replace some engine mounts a few months ago)

I have the same car and a similar problem. Do you also have a quick start when the engine is cold but when the engine is warm it will just crank without turning over but if I stab the gas pedal it will start?
I've recently replaced the ICM and coil in the distributor and tried another used fpr and it got a little better.
In the past I've cleaned the IACV and it got better. (6 months ago)
I'm going to clean the IACV again and I bought a new gasket for the IACV at the dealer in case it's causing a vacuum leak.
I'm also going to clean and lubricate the throttle linkage and check the play in the throttle cable and transmission cable.
When I put on the A/C I don't always get the idle surge I would expect for adding more load on the engine. Like you said it's a little weird.

Re: Random automatic weirdness (d16z6)
I think I made some progress with mine.
I swapped out the IACV with another used one I have with a new gasket and I didn't notice a difference. I then adjusted the idle per procedure disconnecting the Iacv and adjusting the idle screw one half turn counterclockwise, pulling the fuse to reset the ECU and test drove it and it was slightly worse.
I then readjusted the idle screw 2 full turns clockwise and test drove it and it was a lot better. Note when you adjust the idle screw you don't really notice a change in the rpms from the dash tach. Not until you drive it under load do you notice the difference. Also the idle screw seems very loose and easy to turn and I can imagine it may back itself off under engine vibration.
I'll re test drive it again tomorrow in the heat of the day and I may adjust the idle one half turn counterclockwise cause it seems a little strong right now.
But it seems better, thanks for the advice.
