Default Quick yes/no question..

Would an increased amount of oil in engine (1-3qts in oil pan) increase oil pressure?

Yes/No?

Interestingly enough though, when someone gets a VTEC Oil Pressure sensor code, one of the first things that people suggest to do is check the oil level.

Now, why is that?

I think if you have too much oil in the pan, the crank and the rods have to plow through it and if there is way, way too much the bottoms of the pistons will be hitting it = dead motor. If this isn't right, please post with the truth(I'd like to know).

vtec requires a certian specific amount of oil pressure, if your oil level is low enough there will not be enough pressure for vtec to work.

The original Q was "Does an increased amount of oil (1-3qts) increase oil pressure?"

The answer is obviously YES. If you tell me that too low an oil level WILL affect oil pressure enough such that VTEC will not engage, then we have to deduce that 1-3 more qts added will increase pressure as well.

I never said it was a viable way of increasing pressure though.

NO increased oil will NOT INCREASE PRESSURE

look the oil pump sucks up oil from the pan through the oil pickup, think of it like a straw that goes to the bottom of the oilpan. if the oil is low enough it sucks up a tiny bit of air with the oil and is decreases the oil pressure. no matter how much oil you have in your car it will NOT MAKE ANY MORE PRESSURE. and its VERY BAD to run extra oil

Hence why we can't have VTeK y0! at idle. VTEC at idle would be neat, yes yes? ;x
