Default Question on my car, please help.

I have a 97 Civic DX that I got for really cheap. It has a lot of body mods but its an automatic.

I was wondering, if I bought a new transmission and a VTEC is there anyway I could make this car fast? Or is it always going to be relatively slow? And, if so, are there any other parts you would reccomend? Thanks.

VTEC Is not a part you can buy. Yes you can do an auto-manual and an engine swap.

EDIT: Just get the auto-manual swap and spray or boost on your y7. Thats what I'm doing.

Figured as much, was making sure.

I was just wondering if I did switch over to manual if the car was going to be faster and such. I had someone tell me no matter what I did to that car it would never be fast. Thats why I was wondering.

it can go as fast as you want (to a degree), but it all depends how much money you plan to put into it

a few options are a new engine, B16A2, the Si engine with DOHC VTEC
or even a B18C1, Integra GSR motor

and yes switching to manual will make your car go slightly faster, not much but some

Haha, don't listen to them. You got a good platform to work off of. Depending on how fast you go depends on how much you want to work and spend on the car.

You could go NA with a B-series/H-series motor. Or you could go FI with your D-series motor or swap in a B18B or B20 and go FI. It's all personal preference and how much money you are willing to put into it. Manual transmissions doesn't really mean that it's faster, it depends on YOUR driving. But having a manual transmission definitely gives your more overall control of your car than an automatic transmission does.

Well, what would you reccomend?

I want a new transmission obviously and I wanted to get a VTEC engine in it, the stock engine in there now is over 100k miles anyways. Any other parts you would reccomend?

And Honda automatic transmissons are known to not be able to withstand high hp levels without having them completely reubuilt (which WILL cost an arm and a leg).

An engine with VTEC you say? The most popular swap would be a B16A (Si engine). But the best motor for NA VTEC would be a B18C (JDM Integra Type R).

So you reccomend a B18C INTEGRATION?

Anything else?
