Re: pro's on this intake
this is a quote from the test that import tuner did.
From Import Tuner:
"The Verdict:
Common sense tells us that no matter how free-flowing a filter may be, it still presents an obstruction as opposed to not running one at all. So why did both the ones we tested increase power? As Greg explains, the key lies in certain cone-type filters' built-in velocity stacks (all AEM units utilize one) that allow an equal amount of air to be pulled in through the entire surface of the filter. "Without a velocity stack," he explains, "intake tubing is pulling air in along a straight line, as opposed to a wider, 180-degree range with a velocity stack. This increased supply of air offsets the additional energy needed for it to pass through a filter element, and increases power."

cool info...
no filter is just a bad idea altogether. I've seen engines get dusted pretty quick, and it wasn't from water or pebbles. Outside air has dust in it, period. you may not be able to see it, but think about it this way.....when you change your air filter (or clean it) you are cleaning off dust ...... If you don't have a filter, where do you think all that dust is going????
I don't know about anyone else, but i like to rebuild my motors as little as possible.....

I have seen these setups on the track mostly. They usually stick that flange in place of one of the head lights. To get a ram air effect. I am sure it works or they wouldn't be doing it. Engine bay looks clean by the way.

Re: pro's on this intake
I use this setup but I remove a headlight and pull it out thru there. It made a 1mph difference at the track on a friends car, and helped me out a lot too. Its a track only setup, because obviously im missing that headlight, but its a noticeable difference. 3" tubing. NEVER HAD AN ISSUE.
On the other hand, the setup on the pic. . . defeats the purpose. My setup sucks air entirely outside of the engine bay.
