Default Power window switch question

So yesterday my passenger window stopped working. It wouldn't go down or up. I pulled off the door panel and unconnected the plug from the motor and ran a power and ground from the battery. Doing this i was at least able to get the window to go all the way up so i didnt get rained on . Now the question is...which switch needs replaced? Is it the drivers side or the passenger side? I cant put the passenger window down with either one. I'm assuming its the expensive drivers side master switch . Thanx for any help you guys can give me.

Matt

if all fuses are good find out what wires are positive and negative on the plug that goes to the pass side switch.. use extra wire and stick them into the plug for those wires, now you need a power probe hook the ground up to one wire and apply power to the other one while someone presses the switch from the drivers side..if the window works now you need the pass switch if not its the master switch

**** i've checked all the fuses and they are good. I've also replaced both the drivers side and passenger side switches with the switches from my buddy's si and i still have the problem. something else is broken other than the switch i guess...but remember the motor is still working because i was able to move the window up and down using power and ground directly from the battery.

damn, sounds like you have a problem close to mine. Except when I went and got a new passanger side switch, it worked for about 2 weeks, then burnt out again, so I am just gonna rewire all my windows. Hope ya find out whats causing the problems

is the motor grounding with the switch?

Sounds like an incomplete circuit somewhere on ur way from the left side to the right side O.o

some things to help you troubleshoot.

the passenger switch receives it's ground from the driver's switch. both wires from the driver's switch should rest at ground when the driver's switch is at neutral position.
easy to test for.

Driver's window and passenger's window have seperate power fuses in the under dash fuse box.

hey matt if you come down and tune my car ill fix your windows! lol jk, check the relay box, 5thgen is in the door , i dont know where yours is but find it take it apart and check for burnt runs or cold solder on the circuit board. also take a meter and check the wires going to your motor. they should both show ground when your not pressing a switch, then when you press the switch the according wire should switch to 12v, and vice versa when you push the switch the other way. hope this helps.

haha i think i figured it out. My dumbass didn't have the passenger switch plugged up when i tested out my friend's driver side switch so i'm thinking it is more than likely just the drivers side switch. Hopefully my friend will come back around in the next few days and I can test his drivers switch again.
