i've ran without a belt for a good while on my setup, so long as the fluid reservoir was topped off

this is similar to the loop power steering racks everyone does, they just remove all the uneeded parts and retain fluid in the rack

Power steering fluid is to lubricate pump and gears....guessing u should always have tht topped off...the belt off isnt a big deal ^1+

The best bet is to get an electronically operated power steering pump from an MR2, for example, and mount it and run your power steering fluid that way as an electrical accessory instead of a belt driven accessory.

Power steering can be very handy when you're spinning around on the track and would like to correct it. Without power steering it's very difficult to do this well.

I know with enough money anything is possible... but I am assuming this is a 'reasonable and common' upgrade for Civics that already have power steering, correct?

The cx hatchback ill be getting in a few days came without power steering... The difference is day and night between a disabled p/s system and one that didnt come with it in the first place. It's a lot easier to turn than one with a looped rack or pulled belt...

A guy in the autocross forum posted up a "tutorial" on fitting a Toyota MR2 electronic a/c pump into his civic and just ran it off of the fuse box. Just have to get the a/c lines to the pump.

A looped rack is also harder to turn because power steering racks are typically closer ratios since you have the assistance from the power steering pump. So even if properly converted it's just going to be more difficult as the gearing is shorter. I.e. less leverage.

I'll deal with a looped system for a while after I get my swap done, but I plan on finding an electronic pump and running that.

h2b w/ac and power steering. Gangster.

A lot of them willingly don't have a/c, the stock h22 in a prelude runs a/c and the alternator on a serpentine belt, so frame-rail clearance is not an issue. It's just a matter of mounting it up like it comes from the factory.

Power steering is a different story since it is typically ran on a separate accessory belt that occupies precious frame-rail clearance.
