Will a k240-t pass BAR? If so, then you should say so. Your simple comment is worthless if not backed up by fact.

you might be able to by restamping block with b16a2. if not the ref will not smog cause b16b was not a motor in the us. or you can say it was a replacement motor

Very bad idea. Plus this is illegal. VIN number checks were being put in place when I had my car BAR'd 4 years ago.

yeah i do not think the b16b will pass because it or a variation of it was not available in the US
i know people might argue that a b16a is a variation but its really not...

Yeah, im pretty sure its not going to pass. You can install it and hope to hell that you dont get pulled over, but I wouldn't chance it. Best bet is to sell the motor (if you have it already) and drop a B18b1, B18c1, B16a(w/e), or a B18c5. Or just find a JDM motor that has a USDM equivalent.

That's your best bet. If you want the bottom line, go see the referee and ask directly. I went for my swap years ago (91 Civic with DOHC ZC) and he told me that the equivalent was the D16A1 and since it was only in integras up till 89, the DOHC ZC couldn't be used in 90+ cars. I was just stunned it was possible to use at all in California, so go ask and find out

Re: Is it possible to BAR? (24TEN)
thanks for all ur feedback... so also another way to get out of this confusion is to go ask a state referee if the b16b is an equivalent...but how would i be able to just ask him?..like just walk up or what?...

Best bet is just just sell the B16B and buy yourself a B18b/b1, B16a2 or B18c/c1. I would just find a nice USDM motor, but if you can find a JDM motor with a USDM equivalent and dont mind swapping over some parts then go for it. JDM motors usually have less miles, but require some work to pass. USDM motors usually have high mileage depending on the year and are much easier to pass BAR with (as long as all the components are in tact)
