Hello,
I have a civic ex coupe 1999 and it has recently started to pop out of second gear. The motor is the d16y8 it has 250k miles on it and the original transmission *manual obviously*. I've done some research today and i found that it could be bad collars or something with the shift linkage. The problem doesn't happen everytime i shift into second but it happens randomly. I also read that it could be bad mounts causing the transmission to move and popping it out but it also pops out when i try to change gears as smooth as possible. If that even matter. I dont know what my plan of action should be. Tomorrow imma try to check the shift linkage but idk what i should check for. i changed my shift linkage bushings for poly like 5 months ago*poping out started to happen 2 days ago* What should i do ? Start by checking your mounts. All of them. Replace as necessary. If that doesn't solve it, then it's time to replace or rebuild your transmission.

rule of thumb is if it pops out it never went all the way in, its more then likely a worn shifter fork

Could be low fluid, hope you checked for leaks instead of waiting around in this forum for answers.

Well i bought new mounts cuz i needed them anyways and ill be putting them on this weekend. Also, if i hold the shifter when i go into second it stay idk if that means anything or wtv. The weird thing is that ive never had issue with 2nd gear so its so surprising all of the sudden

you betcha lol i think i got it down but i miss my 2nd gear lol

it doesn't pop out immediately nor everytime i go into second tho

Nobody knows what the issue could be until you plan on tearing into the transmission and take some pics of synchros, check for any leaks, etc...etc...

i cant take the trans out lol i wish i could but i dont have where to do it. Anyways i checked for leaks all around but that wasnt much help cuz i didnt find anything. If the mounts dont work ill go to a reputable shop that works on honda i guess

soo i replaced the motor mounts today and second hasn't failed me yet. Lets see if its a fix :D
