So I opened the transmission housing and I found 2 pieces of plastic, pretty hard plastic at that.
Are there plastic pieces in the transmission that it broke off from?
Or could someone have dropped it from the top?

Broken pieces of bearing cage most likely. That's the only plastic that's supposed to be in there other than the speedo gear.

Np. They normally wont cause any other damage, although I have seen one ruined mainshaft due to a bad input shaft bearing. Dissamble the transmission and clean everything up really well. Make sure you dissamble the gear stacks so you can properly clean the input and countershafts. broken pieces of bearing cage like to plug up the oiling holes. replace the bearing and the seal under it. Also make sure you stake the clutch housing countershaft bearing with a punch to keep it from walking out.
