Diffirential moving normal?

I'm finishing up a transmission rebuild for my friend and noticed that the differential wobbles easily when I put it in but the gears still out. Is this normal? It's never happened on my transmissions but mine also have the bearings that look like big ball bearing ones while this is a gsr and it has that tapered looking one.
Also, I was moving the second gear sleeve testing it out, and noticed that when sliding up it moves all the way up, but when moving down it stops right before the black synchro on the gear. Is that normal?
Sorry, just checking everything in detail so my friends transmission works out well.

Differential has new bearings. I put the counter shaft in and the final drive still didn't stop it from moving.

Put the top casing on so the diff had both bearings secured, still have movement.
Does this sound like the bearings? The casing that surrounds the little rollers on the bearings move slightly.

If you had ball bearings in there before, then put in the tapered rollers, you need to add the two .039" thick shims, (look like big washers),then bolt the case halves back together and check the clearance with a feeler gauge, behind the bearing. You will need to buy the right thickness shim from honda(looks like a big C clip). you need to end up with 0.00 to .004" clearance. If you run it like you have now, it won't make it a mile.

Thanks for the reply. We actually replaced the shims along with the two pieces that the tapered bearings rested on and it fits snug now. Haven't checked the clearance yet but are waiting on a new 3/4 sleeve but thanks for posting the tolerances for it.
They naturally 'wobble' when it's just the diff in and no top casing either. It's the design of the bearing.
You cannot check clearance with these with a feeler gauge though. So you can throw the .000"-.004" out the window.
Synchro sleeve should slide the entire way into the gear's dogteeth.
